What is New Chinese Style clothing?

New Chinese Style (often described as Xin Zhong Shi or 新中式) is a broad contemporary fashion category. It can include a modern standing-collar shirt, a qipao-inspired dress, an ink-print skirt, a Tang-style jacket or an outfit that combines Chinese visual details with present-day tailoring. The label describes a design direction rather than proof of a specific dynasty, ceremonial rank, traditional construction or place of manufacture.

New Chinese Style, qipao and Modern Hanfu are not the same

• New Chinese Style: the broadest contemporary category here, covering dresses, shirts, jackets, skirts, trousers and mix-and-match sets.

Choose the garment type first

• One-piece dresses: compare bust, waist, hip, shoulder and total length, then check slit, lining, stretch and closure information. A knitted cheongsam, relaxed ramie dress and structured occasion gown can fit very differently even when they share a New Chinese Style label.
• Coordinated sets: confirm whether the selected option is the whole outfit or one component. Sets in the current assortment can combine a cardigan and dress, shirt and trousers, top and skirt, or outer layer, camisole and shorts.
• Shirts and jackets: review shoulder width, chest ease, sleeve reach and finished length. Some current men’s and unisex options use relaxed cuts, while selected padded jackets extend through 5XL-labelled choices.
• Skirts and trousers: check whether the chart uses body or garment measurements, and compare waist, hip, rise and length. A wide-leg trouser, fitted stirrup pant and asymmetric skirt require different movement room.

Complete set or separate pieces?

Many product photographs show a fully styled look, but the option structure may sell the pieces separately. For example, the current black-and-white ink bamboo outfit offers Top, Skirt and One Set choices in S–L. The blue cross-collar summer set offers the outer top, shorts, camisole or One Set in S–L. Read the complete variant name before paying. “One set” can contain a different number of pieces from another product, and a lower starting price may belong to one top, skirt, jacket or accessory rather than the complete photograph. A belt, jewellery, shawl, bag, underskirt, hair ornament or shoes are included only when the selected option or written component list says so.

Use measurements, not the size label alone

Selected live products currently use labels from XS through 5XL, together with one-size, Small/Large and custom-labelled options. That range does not mean every product offers every size, and the same letter can represent different measurements between makers. Compare the exact chart for the chosen product and variant.

Also check what each number represents. The ink-dyed shirt and stirrup-trouser options, for example, use different fit and measurement guidance for the relaxed shirt and the slimmer trousers. For close dresses, choose around the largest relevant measurement and leave room for sitting, breathing and walking. For layered looks, allow space for the inner garment and check sleeve openings as well as the bust.

Read material terms precisely

Current product listings use terms including ramie, lyocell or Tencel, cotton, wool, velvet, chiffon, lace, jacquard, satin and mulberry silk. These terms do not apply to the whole Collection. A fibre such as ramie, cotton, wool or silk is different from a weave, surface or finish such as satin, jacquard, velvet-look fabric, embroidery or flocking. Shine alone is not evidence of silk, and a product name containing “silk” should still be checked against the detailed composition for the exact garment.

When material matters, use the individual listing for shell, lining, fibre percentages, stretch, transparency and care. Different pieces in one set can have different compositions. Embroidery, beads, sequins, lace and raised surfaces may also change weight, flexibility and cleaning requirements.

Choose around occasion and season

• Daily or travel outfits: prioritize documented movement room, manageable sleeves, pockets, washable care and pieces that can be worn separately.
• Work, dinners and celebrations: compare neckline coverage, hem length, sitting comfort and the venue’s dress code rather than relying on the word “elegant.”
• Weddings and formal events: check colour expectations, lining, movement, embellishment security and whether alteration time is needed. A qipao-inspired or white dress is not automatically appropriate for every ceremony.
• Cool weather: verify actual fibre, padding, lining and layer contents. A long sleeve or velvet appearance alone does not guarantee warmth.
